It’s probably a bad time for business but we can’t let the current economic crisis drive us to bankruptcy. While the premier goal of businesses is to gain profit, this is not entirely possible nowadays. The economic crisis has stunted every businesses and it has even forced other established agencies to close down.

Closing down and filing bankruptcy is not always an option but cutting down on cost is a decision that can be done to remedy the problems brought by the crumbling economy.

Here are some practical tips on how you can cut down on your business cost:

1. When the economy is low and you don’t have your own business space, you can try to renegotiate for a lower rent or at least, a relatively lower rent WHILE the business is slow. Of course, since the economy is at its low point, your landlord would prefer to have accept low rent than no rent at all. If you have your own business space and you feel that you don’t need to much space, you can lease some of your office space. Sharing offices is always a possibility. On the other hand, if you don’t have your own space and you occupy a pretty large office, move to a smaller office. As a matter of fact, if your business can afford to “stay at home,” do so. You can occupy the garage or spare bedroom in your house.

2. Minimize cost by subscribing to low-cost services. If you are planning to start a business, subscribe to online fax services of using the traditional fax machine. Online fax does not require an additional phone line to be installed in your office. You don’t have to spend for fax papers, inks, toners, and you don’t have to buy the purchase the big bulky fax machines because everything can be done in your computer. You not only save on your cost, but you increase your company’s productivity as well.

3. Pay yourself last. When the going gets tough, the first one that should sacrifice should be the business owners. Most companies are not able to survive because business owners refused to have their huge salaries cut down. It would be a tough decision-paying yourself last-but that would bring great benefits for your business.

4. Widen your employee and staff’s tasks and responsibilities. You can always ask your staff to multi-task and perform other responsibilities so that you can lower your company’s cost. For instance, instead of hiring a bookkeeper who will prepare your payroll, you can ask your secretary to do it for the mean time. Your employees will surely welcome the additional task than being laid off (or waiting to be).

5. Save on storage. If you have too much office appliances and fixtures, sell some that are not being used. Storage space is always expensive but they are not always necessities. You can have these fixtures donated to local charities or sold to your employees.

Tina L. Douglas writes about online fax and identity theft most of the time. It’s because of her passion to save nature from danger and losing itself. For her, using online fax means a paperless environment and less hazard for nature.
